Visa extension granted to foreigners affected by Middle East tensions
MANILA. Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Friday, March 13, announced visa relief for foreign nationals whose flights were affected by the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
After the United States and Israel struck Iran, violence in the Middle East has escalated, prompting mass cancellations of flights in the region.
BI chief Frederick Vida issued a department order allowing foreigners whose visas expired last February 28 to legally stay in the Philippines until April 1, 2026.
This extension comes with no additional fees, fines and penalties.
“This is the Philippine government’s simple way of extending relief not only to those directly affected by the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East, but also a compassionate gesture of support to stand in solidarity with the whole world during this difficult time of socio-economic and political upheavals,” Vida said.
The Israel-Iran war has sent shockwaves across the global economy, with fuel prices skyrocketing after Tehran blocked the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for Tel Aviv’s assault.
While the government has promised that there is no direct threat to the country, the Philippines already feels the impact of the war, with fuel prices hitting a record high.
Analysts fear that the war may be prolonged, as neither side has shown signs of backing down.
