MANILA, Philippines — Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV is not denying his involvement in the buildup of the case against former president Rodrigo Duterte at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

But he maintained that he did nothing wrong, saying his actions were within the bounds of what is allowed by existing laws and policies.

“I admit, in general terms, that I have been communicating with the ICC to help gather evidence and facilitate meetings for the benefit of the case against Duterte,” he told “Storycon” on One News.

“There is no prohibition… What is wrong with that?” he said, referring to his actions.

Trillanes denied allegations that he received money to finance the operations of ICC probers in the Philippines, saying there are efforts to muddle his involvement to make it appear that the probers were corrupt or that the evidence and witnesses were tainted.

He said he is not surprised by the remarks of Duterte's lawyer Nicholas Kaufman that he plans to request the disclosure of Trillanes’ involvement in the ICC case.

“We never provided corrupt sources or witnesses. Definitely, we did not give any money to anyone from the ICC,” Trillanes said.
