UP improves in 2026 world university rankings

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines was ranked in 10 out of 11 subject areas in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2026.

The World University Rankings 2026 published yesterday noted that universities across Asia continue to improve in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields and are now rising faster than their European and North American rivals in other areas such as the arts.

The UP Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs said that UP improved its standing in Education Studies, moving up to the 401-500 bracket from its 501-600 placement in the 2025 rankings.

This year, THE evaluated 830 universities from 88 countries and territories in Education Studies, up from 767 universities last year.

It added that UP also demonstrated a strong standing in Medical and Health, placing in the 501-600 bracket among 1,230 universities from 102 countries and territories evaluated worldwide.

Except for Physical Sciences, UP maintained its standings across most subject areas, but was not ranked in Law this year.

UP ranked 1201-1500 in THE World University Rankings 2026, earning its strongest score in the area of research quality.

UP was also included in THE top institutions in Asia.
