Privacy commissioner named

MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has appointed an official of the Governance Commission for Government Owned and Controlled Corporations (GCG) as commissioner of the National Privacy Commission (NPC).

Lawyer Johann Carlos Barcena took his oath as the new privacy commissioner before Marcos yesterday at Malacañang.

Before his appointment to NPC, Barcena was an executive editor at the GCG.

Under the Data Privacy Act of 2012, the privacy commissioner and the two deputy privacy commissioners shall be appointed by the President for a term of three years and may be reappointed for another term of three years.
