DOJ: Roque, Ong passports canceled

MANILA, Philippines — The passports of former presidential spokesman Harry Roque and his co-accused Cassandra Li Ong have been canceled over qualified human trafficking charges in connection with their alleged involvement in the illegal operations of a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub in Porac, Pampanga.
The passports of Roselyn Baterna and Dennis Cunanan were also canceled.
Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesman Polo Martinez said there is no red notice yet from the International Criminal Organization (Interpol) against Roque.
“For the red notice, only the court can issue a cancellation of the passport and the motion for the cancellation of the passport typically involves the request for red notice,” he told reporters.
The DOJ urged Roque to return to the Philippines to face the charges filed against him.
Roque is invoking the principle of non-refoulement as he continues to seek asylum in the Netherlands.
