Fredderick Vida formally assumes post as acting justice chief
MANILA, Philippines — Acting Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida took his oath as the head of the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday, November 17.
Vida was sworn in by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
With his appointment, Vida officially takes over the agency overseeing the government’s top lawyers and prosecutors. He was designated acting secretary on November 13.
He succeeds former Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, who now serves as Ombudsman.
Vida has been leading the department since October following Remulla’s appointment. He was first appointed assistant secretary in 2023.
During his tenure, the DOJ oversaw preliminary investigations into alleged corruption in flood-control projects and released the resolution on the missing sabungeros case.
