DepEd releases P661.1 million for school repairs after Uwan

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) has released P661.1 million to fund the repair of nearly 3,000 schools damaged by Super Typhoon Uwan.
According to DepEd, 2,953 schools were affected, with 2,979 still suspending classes and 968 being used as evacuation centers.
The department is coordinating with the World Bank to support further classroom reconstruction efforts.
Meanwhile, in the Negros Island Region, DepEd said it needs at least P954.7 million to repair classrooms damaged by Typhoon Tino.
According to the DepEd situation report, 1,726 classrooms in the region were affected – 277 destroyed and 424 with major damage – impacting over 64,000 learners and 3,500 education personnel in the province alone.
