Marcos visits disaster-stricken Cebu
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday, November 7, went to Cebu to assess the damage left by Typhoon Tino.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said that Marcos had conducted an aerial inspection of the ravaged lands in Cebu before visiting the Tiltilon Elementary School in Liloan. Many of the school’s classrooms had been destroyed in Tino’s wake.
The school was serving as an evacuation center for around 126 families, or around 500 people.
Marcos visited the typhoon victims, many of whom were in line for the relief goods brought by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
The PCO said the Department of Health was also administering health checks, providing children with routine vaccinations to prevent the outbreak of diseases.
Marcos is set to visit other areas that were struck by Tino within the day.
Tino has killed at least 188 people in the Philippines, with more than a hundred people still missing. Marcos has already declared a state of national calamity.
The country is currently bracing itself for another tropical cyclone, which may enter the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday.
Severe Tropical Storm Fong-Wong, which will soon be named "Uwan," is set to intensify as a super typhoon in the following days. State meteorologists have predicted that it will hit northern or central Luzon.
The government has already urged residents to evacuate ahead of time.
