‘You’re barking up the wrong tree’: Bong Go tells Trillanes

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go slammed the plunder charges filed against him and ex-president Rodrigo Duterte by former senator Sonny Trillanes at the Office of the Ombudsman.

Trillanes, a long-time critic of Go and Duterte, alleged that Go’s family was awarded almost P7 billion worth of government infrastructure contracts,” most of which were found in the Davao region.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Go said he was ready to cooperate with the case, maintaining that he was on the side of the truth.

“Trillanes, you are barking up the wrong tree,” Go said.

Go challenged the former senator, saying that he should file a case against the real perpetrators of corruption, insinuating that Trillanes has a secret backer and that he was following a script. However, he did not name who this alleged backer is.

Despite being the special assistant to Duterte, Go maintained that he did not give his family any political favor, and that his family’s businesses had existed long before he entered politics.

Trillanes, however, pointed to the alleged joint ventures between CLTG— which is owned by members of Go’s family—and the Discaya-owned St. Gerrard Construction.

The Discaya couple reportedly refused to answer questions about the joint venture, giving the impression that they were protecting Go.

Both the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have said that they will probe the alleged links between the Discaya firm and the CLTG Builders.

Go said that he was willing to cooperate with any probe against him and his family.

During the probe into the corruption mess, it was revealed that several officials from the DPWH have allegedly used flood control projects as a mechanism for corruption.

Billions of pesos are suspected of being funneled into substandard or ghost projects for later kickback for officials.
