CA approves Aguda, Garin appointments

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Appointments (CA) approved yesterday the interim appointments of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda and Energy Secretary Sharon Garin.
During his confirmation hearing, Aguda said 78 percent of all public schools in the country are already equipped with internet.
Pressed regarding the remaining 22 percent, Aguda said these are remote schools – mostly in the mountainside areas of the country – and all of them would have internet connectivity before the year ends.
Aguda, who was bypassed in June before the 19th Congress adjourned sine die, also assured the committee that the Konektadong Pinoy Law, which seeks to improve nationwide connectivity and make it more affordable, would most likely be fully rolled out by Oct. 17 at the earliest.
Garin faced questions regarding pressing matters of the energy sector, including clean energy, affordable electricity and sustaining power in disaster-hit areas.
Both Marcos appointees received commendations from CA members.
