Pulong says Romualdez resignation part of cover-up

Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines —  Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez is covering up corruption by resigning as House speaker, Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte said yesterday.

“Isabela Rep. Faustino Dy III will be the replacement. Who (chose him)? None other than Ilocos Norte Rep. Sandro Marcos, partymate in Partido Federal, son of the President. What is this? Another cover-up move!” Duterte said.

“Change of faces, the same rotten system. Mr. President, what is this? If you are really serious in the fight against corruption, why don’t you file cases against the corrupt lawmakers? Corruption will not end with cries and sweet talk. Let us prove that this is not only talk,” he added.

Sandro Marcos chided the Davao City lawmaker for ignorance of House affairs due to frequent absences from the chamber’s sessions.

“Maybe that was his style when he was the son of a president. I can assure (you) that we are consultative with all party leaders. You can ask them. We met for plenty of weeks. If only Pulong had shown himself here, in our work at the session, maybe he will see that,” Marcos said.

He said Duterte is busy looking for the P51 billion spent in his district for flood control.
