2025 Bar chair turns over chairmanship to Gaerlan

MANILA, Philippines — The chairmanship of the Bar Examinations has been handed over to Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Gaerlan.
Bar Examination Chairperson Associate Justice Amy Lazaro-Javier ends her term, making Gaerlan the Bar chair for the 2026 Bar Examinations, according to a statement by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, September 16.
In a statement, Gaerlan said that he will “carry on the ideals, adopt the best practices, and continue the legacy of my predecessor.”
The 2025 Bar Examinations concluded on September 14. The Supreme Court stated that 11,425 examinees completed the three-day examinations at 14 local testing centers nationwide.
On the first day, September 7, aspiring lawyers took Political and Public International Law and Commercial and Taxation Law.
The second day took place on September 10, when Bar examinees took Civil Law and Labor Laws and Social Legislation.
Criminal Law, Remedial Law, Legal and Judicial Ethics, and Practical Exercises were taken on the third day.
Lazaro-Javier first revealed Gaerlan as the 2026 Bar chairperson on Feb. 18, 2025.
Meanwhile, during the oral arguments on the legality of the transfer of excess funds from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, Supreme Court Associate Justice Ricardo Rosario revealed that he will be the 2027 Bar Examinations Chairperson.
