Marcos: Romualdez, Zaldy Co won't be spared in probe
MANILA, Philippines — There will be no sacred cows for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. when it comes to the investigation into the flood control mess — not even his cousin, House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Romualdez and former House appropriations chairman Rep. Zaldy Co (Ako Bicol party-list) were roped into the corruption scandal after officials named in alleged kickback schemes said contractors used the speaker’s name to solicit money.

Marcos, asked whether the Independent Commission for Infrastructure would spare his cousin, replied: “Well, there’s only one way to do it – they will not be spared.”
But Marcos, aware that such pronouncement would be easy to make, said it would simply be done.
The commission, formed by Marcos, is composed of appointees of former presidents Benigno Aquino III and Rodrigo Duterte. It is tasked to investigate corruption in the infrastructure sector.
Romualdez responds. Romualdez, meanwhile, welcomed the president’s remarks.
“From the very start, I have made it clear: the House will not be a refuge for wrongdoing. Not even its own Members will be shielded if wrongdoing is proven. We will ensure that the process is fair, fact-based, and guided by the rule of law,” Romualdez said.
Allegation then retraction. It was the controversial Discaya couple who initially named House lawmakers and other officials in the alleged kickback schemes, saying some officials claimed to be in cahoots with Romualdez and Co.
Contractor Curlee Discaya, however, later said they had no direct transactions with Romualdez or Co.
