NDRRMC: Death toll due to habagat, cyclones rises to 37

MANILA, Philippines — The fatalities due to the combined effects of the southwest monsoon or habagat and three tropical cyclones last week rose to 37, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said. 

In its latest report at 6 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, the NDRRMC said there are nine fatalities in Metro Manila, eight in Calabarzon, six in Western Visayas, three each in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Negros Island Region and Northern Mindanao, two in Central Luzon, one each in Mimaropa, Davao Region and Caraga.

According to the NDRRMC, there are also 22 injured and eight missing persons reported.

Across all regions except Eastern Visayas, a total of 7,685,943 individuals, or 2,121,645 families, have been impacted by the recent severe weather, with Central Luzon reporting the highest number of affected persons at 2,820,250.

Out of the total population affected, 105,466 individuals or 30,072 families sought refuge in evacuation centers, while an additional 88,734 people or 23,588 families found shelter outside evacuation centers.

The damage incurred amounted to over P10 billion for infrastructure, nearly P2 billion for agriculture and P281.66 million for irrigation systems. 

Additionally, 46,655 homes were damaged, with 41,217 partially affected and 5,438 completely destroyed.

The NDRRMC reported that aid totaling P763,694,580 has been distributed to the victims thus far.
