Philippines population reached 112.7 million in 2024 – PSA

MANILA, Philippines — The country’s official population count reached 112.73 million as of July last year, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The figure, which was based on the PSA’s 2024 Census of Population and Housing, has been declared official by President Marcos through Proclamation No. 973 dated July 11, 2025.
It covers the total number of people living in the country’s 18 administrative regions as of July 1, 2024. It also includes Filipinos in Philippine embassies, consulates and missions overseas.
Compared to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing, the country’s population count rose by 3.69 million from 109.04 million in 2020.
In terms of population growth rate (PGR), the uptick slowed to 0.8 percent annually from 2020 to 2024 from 1.6 percent for the period of 2015 to 2020.
“The slowdown in the growth rate may be driven by several interrelated factors such as but not limited to declining fertility and birth rate, elevated mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic and subdued migration activity,” the PSA said.
Among regions, Region IV-A or Calabarzon (Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon) recorded the largest population in 2024 with 16.93 million.
This was followed by the National Capital Region with 14 million and Region III (Central Luzon) with 12.99 million.
These three regions account for about 39 percent of the Philippine population.
Meanwhile, the Cordillera Administrative Region had the lowest population count with 1.81 million or about 1.6 percent of the country’s total.
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao had the fastest growing population with an annual PGR of 3.43 percent.
Central Luzon placed second with a PGR of 1.08 percent, while Calabarzon ranked third with 1.07 percent.
On the other hand, the Bicol Region posted the lowest PGR of -0.07 percent.
Marcos: Distribute copies of census
The results of the census that logged the Philippines’ total population as 112,729,484 as of July 1, 2024 have been declared official.
President Marcos directed the PSA, in coordination with the Presidential Communications Office, to distribute copies of the 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN): Population by Province City/Municipality, and Barangay to all concerned state agencies and offices through Proclamation No. 973.
“Now therefore, I, Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution and existing laws, do hereby declare as official for all purposes the results of the 2024 POPCEN, placing the total population of the Philippines as of 1 July 2024 at 112,729,484,” the proclamation dated July 11 read.
PSA, which conducts national censuses and surveys, compiles sectoral statistics, consolidates selected administrative recording systems and prepares national accounts, conducted the census July to September 2024, with July 1, 2024 as the reference date. – Alexis Romero
