Philippine Coast Guard: 181 stranded in 3 ports due to ‘Crising’

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression “Crising” disrupted maritime travel in Eastern Visayas on Thursday morning, July 17, leaving over a hundred passengers and dozens of rolling cargoes stranded at key ports.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that a total of 181 passengers, drivers and cargo helpers were stranded across three major ports in the region from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. today.
The affected ports include Maasin, Benit and Padre Burgos.
In addition to the stranded individuals, 90 rolling cargoes and three vessels were unable to depart.
The PCG also confirmed that two other vessels sought shelter in these ports due to the effects of the inclement weather.
As of 11 a.m., the state weather bureau PAGASA said that 14 provinces in Luzon are under wind signal No. 1 due to Crising.
Crising was last estimated 520 kilometers (km) east northeast of Juban, Sorsogon, or 470 km east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.
It carries maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, with gusts of up to 70 kph, and a central pressure of 1000 hPa. The tropical depression is currently moving north-northwestward at 25 kph.
