‘When emotions are high, intelligence is low’: Palace tells VP Sara

Jean Mangaluz - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — The Palace did not mince words when it fired back at Vice President Sara Duterte’s tirades, telling her that “when emotions are high, intelligence is low”.

In a briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro responded to Duterte’s remarks after she called the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. idiotic. Castro said that Duterte appears to be too emotional.

“When emotions are high intelligence is low. Never speak out of anger,” Castro advised Duterte.

Duterte recently went on an alleged personal trip to Australia. The Palace has criticized Duterte’s trips to Australia and other countries, saying that she was on holiday.

While the vice president denied being on holiday, she admitted to being there to speak with the Filipino community. She also attempted to speak to Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, who was unavailable at the time.

Presidential frontrunner? Not so fast

Castro also thumbed down Duterte’s comments on being the frontrunner in the 2028 presidential elections, saying that she should focus on the allegations of the misuse of confidential funds.

“Kapag ikaw ay taong-gobyerno at public servant ka, obligasyon mo na ipakita lahat at sagutin ang mga isyu na kakapalooban o na kakasangkutan mo. So, ini-expect po natin iyan kay VP Sara dahil talagang mukhang diversionary tactic po ito,” Castro said.

(If you are in government and you’re a public servant, it is your obligation to answer to the issues that you are allegedly involved with. So we expect that from VP Sara because this looks like a diversionary tactic.)

Duterte is currently embroiled in an impeachment case that is pending trial at the Senate. She faces allegations of misusing confidential funds in the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education.

She also publicly admitted to being in contact with someone to have Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Speaker Martin Romualdez killed.

Photo ops?

Castro also responded to Duterte’s criticisms of Marcos taking “photo ops” with seized illegal drugs. She reminded Duterte that her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, had taken similar photos in the past.

The Palace official came prepared with receipts, showing the media a printout of an Inquirer.net story of the elder Duterte attending the burning of illegal drugs.
