‘34 missing sabungeros buried in Taal Lake’
MANILA, Philippines — The 34 cockfight enthusiasts who have been missing for four years are dead and were buried in Taal Lake in Batangas, according to one of the suspects who wants to be a state witness.
In an interview aired over GMA News’ “24 Oras” on Tuesday, the suspect – one of the six security guards at Manila Arena – said the sabungeros were strangled with a wire.
Threats to his family made him decide to come forward, the suspect identified as alias Totoy said.
Totoy vowed to name the person who ordered the killings in due time.
All the victims, he said, had one thing in common: cheating in cockfight games.
Totoy said they endorsed the victims to another group, which he did not identify.
He claimed that drug lords were also buried in Taal Lake.
The Department of Justice earlier sought the recapture of the six security guards who were charged with the kidnapping and serious illegal detention of the cockfight enthusiasts in Manila.
The Court of Appeals has granted the prosecution’s petition seeking to cancel the suspects’ bail, which was granted by the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 40.
The Philippine National Police had identified the six as Julie Patidongan, Gleer Codilla, Mark Carlo Zabala, Virgilio Bayog, Johnry Consolacion and Roberto Matillano Jr.
