MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration has apprehended two foreign nationals in separate operations for alleged child exploitation activities.

In a statement on Sunday, April 6, the bureau announced the arrests, which involved cases of child sexual abuse and trafficking.

The first suspect, Swedish national Heinz Henry Andreas Berglund, 55, was arrested on April 2 in Angeles City, Pampanga.

Berglund is wanted in Sweden for multiple counts of child sexual abuse and exploitation material (CSAEM) under the Swedish Criminal Code. His alleged victim was a 10-year-old child in Sweden.

Authorities also  noted Berglund’s prior convictions for serious financial fraud, raising concerns that he might target children in the Philippines.

In a separate operation on April 3, immigration operatives detained Indonesian national Ignaz Ega Adhiaga, 28. Adhiaga is accused of involvement in child trafficking involving a nine-year-old victim.

Explicit materials and photographs of young children from various countries were reportedly found in his possession.

What's next: Both Berglund and Adhiaga are now undergoing deportation proceedings for violating Philippine immigration laws.
