MANILA, Philippines — The race for the second congressional district of Caloocan has intensified after incumbent Rep. Mitch Cajayon-Uy sued her opponent, former representative Egay Erice, for violating the “Bawal Bastos” Law or Safe Spaces Act.

Uy is demanding P100 million in damages from Erice.

Erice allegedly demeaned Cajayon-Uy during a caucus with his supporters.

In the viral video, he criticized Cajayon-Uy for prioritizing aid to her constituents rather than focusing on legislative duties.

“Have you heard anything from Congresswoman Mitch Cajayon in Congress?,” Erice asked. “What is she doing? Aid, aid, aid. She dances and shows her tongue while shaking her breasts.”

Cajayon-Uy also charged Erice with slander before the Caloocan prosecutor’s office on Monday for allegedly “trampling her dignity.”

“You have a mother, a wife and children. This Women’s Month, I proudly stand not just in the name of politics, but for the rights and dignity of all women,” Cajayon-Uy said.

Erice stood by his remarks, insisting that he was merely depicting her behavior as a candidate.
