‘Nika,’ ‘Ofel,’ ‘Pepito,’ death toll climbs to 14 — NDRRMC
MANILA, Philippines — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that fatalities from tropical cyclones "Nika" (Toraji), "Ofel" (Usagi) and "Pepito" (Man-Yi) have risen to 14.
Of the 14 reported deaths, five are validated, while 20 are reported injured along with two individuals missing, according to NDRRMC’s 8 a.m. report on Tuesday, November 26.
The cyclones affected 4,265,415 individuals, or 1,157,228 families.
Of these, 124,144 people were displaced, with 79,123 taking shelter in evacuation centers and 45,021 seeking refuge outside them.
Infrastructure damage
A total of 874 infrastructure items were damaged, amounting to P2,896,847,565.62, following the cyclones.
Damaged houses numbered 78,492, with 61,895 partially damaged and 16,507 completely destroyed.
In addition, 547 road sections and 122 bridges are impassable due to flooding caused by the cyclones. Forty-eight areas are in a state of calamity.
Meanwhile, agricultural damage is estimated at P784,676,412.48, impacting 41,055.27 hectares of crops and affecting 33,928 farmers and fisherfolk. Of this total, P5,900,520 is attributed to damage to livestock, poultry, and fisheries.
