MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos yesterday joined world leaders in congratulating Donald Trump as the businessman and once disgraced American leader was poised to pull off a historic political comeback that would send him back to the White House.
In a statement, Marcos said he was looking forward to working with Trump on a wide range of issues that would yield mutual benefits for “two nations with deep ties, shared beliefs, a common vision and a long history of working together.”
“President Trump has won, and the American people have triumphed. I congratulate them on their victory in an exercise that showed the world the strength of American values,” Marcos said.
“I am hopeful that this unshakeable alliance, tested in war and peace, will be a force for good, blazing a path of prosperity and amity in the region and on both sides of the Pacific,” he added.
Marcos gave assurance that the Philippines is fully committed to its “durable partnership” with the US, its treaty ally, because it is founded on freedom and democracy, ideals that the two countries share.
He expressed optimism about the leadership of Trump, who became US president in 2016 but lost his reelection bid in 2020.
“I have personally met President Trump as a young man, so I know that his robust leadership will result in a better future for all of us. Congratulations, President Trump!” Marcos said.
