MANILA, Philippines —  President Marcos yesterday awarded outstanding public servants.

“The quality of the work and the initiative that people have shown belies the general image of the civil servant as being a bit of a drudge and being not terribly imaginative,” Marcos said in his speech during the 2024 Outstanding Government Workers awarding ceremony at Malacañang.

Twenty-eight government employees and groups were honored at the ceremony, with the conferment of the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award, Dangal ng Bayan Award and the CSC Pagasa Award.

Six people and three groups received the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award, the highest recognition for state workers.

Ten people received the Dangal ng Bayan Award, a recognition for performing extraordinary acts of public service and consistent demonstration of exemplary ethical behavior.

Eight people and one group were conferred the CSC Pagasa Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions that directly benefit more than one department of the government.

Marcos cited a Presidential Lingkod Bayan awardee from Iloilo, whose vision drove him to transform a 15-hectare abandoned fishpond into an eco-park.

The President reminded awardees to maintain transparency, accountability and integrity in serving the people.

Meanwhile, in observance of National Family Week, workers in the government’s executive branch will provide service only until 3 p.m. on Sept. 23.
