US arms control official visiting Manila

Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Visiting US Department of State Undersecretary for arms control and international security affairs Bonnie Jenkins will attend the Strategic Trade Management Summit, where President Marcos is expected to provide the keynote address.

Jenkins will also meet with other Philippine officials during her visit in Manila from Sept. 8 to 9.

She will also meet with other partners to discuss the strengthening of bilateral relationship and promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

As undersecretary, Jenkins oversees three bureaus: Arms Control, Deterrence and Stability Bureau; International Security and Nonproliferation Bureau, and Political-Military Affairs Bureau.

In May 2023, US State Secretary Antony Blinken named Jenkins as the senior official to lead the department’s efforts on the implementation of the AUKUS – the trilateral security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, intended to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific.
