Alice Guo seeks help amid alleged death threat

Ian Laqui - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo has expressed fear for her life, claiming she has received a death threat.

This was captured during a Facebook live stream of Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos on Thursday, September 5, as Guo was transferred from Indonesian police custody to Philippine government officials at the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police headquarters.

In the video, Guo is seen asking for Abalos’ help.

“Sec, patulong, may death threat po kasi ako (Secretary, please help, I have a death threat),” Guo said.

As Abalos responded, the audio of the video was temporarily cut off, but he could be heard speaking again shortly after.

“Titignan natin ito, kaya nga kumuha na kami ng private plane dito (We will look into this, that's why we already arranged for a private plane here),” Abalos told Guo.

During the transfer, Guo was seen showing her Philippine passport, the document she reportedly used to escape the Philippines on August 17. She also signed some documents.

The dismissed mayor, who was arrested in a hotel in the early morning of September 4, is expected to return to the Philippines on Thursday evening.

Accompanying Guo are Abalos, Philippine National Police Chief General Rommel Marbil and officials from the National Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Immigration.

Upon her return, Guo will first be in the custody of the Philippine National Police before being transferred to Senate custody on Friday, September 6.

The dismissed mayor will be facing multiple charges, some of which involve her nationality and her alleged involvement in the unlawful activities of Philippine offshore gaming operator hub in Bamban.

Philstar.com has reached out to one of Guo's lawyers, Stephen David, for comment, but has yet to receive a response.
