MANILA, Philippines — Humid weather can be expected in Luzon, including Metro Manila, as the southwest monsoon weakens, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

The weather bureau also spotted yesterday a new low-pressure area 630 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. Rains are to be expected in Batanes and Babuyan islands due to the southwest monsoon and not because of the LPA.

PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said the southwest monsoon is only currently affecting the eastern part of Northern Luzon, particularly Batanes and Babuyan Island.

“Because the southwest monsoon does not affect many areas in Luzon, we will continue to experience hot weather especially at noon, but there is a possibility of rains in the afternoon and in the evening due to localized thunderstorms,” Castañeda said.

She also warned that the monsoon rains in Batanes and Babuyan islands might bring flash floods or landslides, particularly during moderate to at times heavy rains.
