Marcos, Sara ratings fall – Pulse Asia

MANILA, Philippines — Following a slight increase in the last quarter of 2023, the approval and trust ratings of President Marcos once again suffered a significant decline in the latest survey conducted by Pulse Asia.

From 68 percent in December, approval of Marcos dropped by 13 points to just 55 percent in the March 6 to 10 survey conducted by the polling firm.

Those who disapproved of his performance increased by 11 points from nine percent to 20 percent, while those who were undecided went up from 22 percent to 25 percent.

Trust and approval with Vice President Sara Duterte also dropped, but not as sharp as that of Marcos.

Approval with Marcos declined across areas, with the lowest in Mindanao at 40 percent (from 62 percent), followed by those in Metro Manila at 47 percent (from 64 percent), Visayas at 54 percent (from 66 percent) and the rest of Luzon at 66 percent (from 74 percent).

It also fell significantly among those in class E at 48 percent (from 68 percent), followed by those in class D at 56 percent (from 69 percent) and class ABC at 62 percent (from 63 percent).

Meanwhile, Marcos’ trust ratings dropped from 73 percent in December 2023 to just 57 percent in March 2024.

Those who distrust him increased from seven percent to 15 percent, while those who were undecided increased from 20 percent to 29 percent.

Like his approval ratings, trust with Marcos also declined across areas, with the lowest among those in Mindanao at 38 percent (from 70 percent), followed by those in the Visayas at 54 percent (from 73 percent), Metro Manila at 55 percent (from 76 percent) and the rest of Luzon at 67 percent (from 72 percent).

It was lowest among class E at 45 percent (from 74 percent), followed by those in class D at 58 percent (from 72 percent) and class ABC at 63 percent (from 71 percent).

Duterte’s ratings

Although Vice President and Education Secretary Duterte’s ratings also dropped, she remained the most approved and trusted among the five highest officials of the country.

Her approval ratings decreased by seven points from 74 percent to 67 percent, while those who disapproved of her performance increased from eight percent to 11 percent.

Meanwhile, trust with the Vice President dropped from 78 percent in December 2023 to 71 percent in March 2024, while distrust with her slightly increased from six percent to eight percent.

Approval and trust with Duterte remained highest among respondents in her bailiwick Mindanao (92 percent and 95 percent, respectively), followed by those in the Visayas (64 percent and 72 percent), balance Luzon (61 percent and 62 percent) and Metro Manila (52 percent and 60 percent).

Pulse Asia’s non-commissioned Ulat ng Bayan survey had 1,200 respondents and a margin of error of plus/minus 2.8 percent at the 95 percent confidence level.
