MANILA, Philippines — In a move to solidify its position as the Leading Dive Destination in Asia, Philippines is set to once again stage the Philippine Dive Expo in February next year.

The Department of Tourism is set to organize 2024 PHIDEX, the country’s largest platform for the diving economy. It will be held from Feb. 23 to 25, 2024 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

The three-day event, launched in 2019 which prides itself as the only dive show in the region with value-added event components, is eyed to gather dive travel decision-makers, global experts, enterprises, local communities, enthusiasts, marine conservation associations and National Tourism Organizations.

PHIDEX features a Dive Travel Exchange or TRAVEX business-to-business meeting, connecting local and international dive operators.

It also has a Dive Conference that allows local and international dive experts to network and exchange industry knowledge.

Aside from these networking platforms, PHIDEX also arranges post-event dive familiarization tours that allow international buyers and media to personally experience the country’s dive sites and products.

This year, the DOT said it has tapped Underwater 360, organizer of the Asia Dive Expo, the longest running and largest dive expo in Asia for the exhibition component of the expo.

It also invited exhibitors to reach out to Underwater 360’s Desmond Ho, also the Regional Business Manager of Asian Geographic Magazines Pte Ltd /Asia Dive Expo/Underwater 360 Asia at [email protected] and  [email protected] ,should they wish to join the PHIDEX exhibit. .

Meanwhile, the DOT previously reported that the contribution of the dive industry to country’s tourism was evident in 2022.

During which, the Philippines gained an estimated P37 billion in tourist receipts from international dive visitors, equivalent to more than 17.5% of the country’s entire tourism receipts last year.

The contribution is also evident with the recognition the country is getting as a dive destination in the region.

Last month, the Philippines has been named as the Best Dive Destination in the Asia Pacific region at the Travel Weekly Asia Readers' Choice Awards.

It also won Asia’s Leading Dive Destination” at the prestigious World Travel Awards Asia & Oceania Gala Ceremony 2023 for the fifth consecutive year in September.
