LIST: 'Libreng Sakay' options on October 16 amid ongoing transport strike
MANILA, Philippines — Numerous local government units announced that they will be providing free transportation services to passengers amid the transportation strike.
Members of the Malayang Alyansa ng Bus Employees at Laborers (Manibela) pushed through with their transport strike on Monday against the consolidation deadline for traditional jeepneys. The transport strike will last until October 17 and is expected to affect thousands of commuters.
The so-called “Magnificent 7” transport groups, composed of Pasang Masda, Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (Altodap), Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Opereytors Nationwide (Piston), Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization, Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (Fejodap), Stop and Go, and Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators ng Pilipinas, will not participate in the Manibela-led transport strike.
In view of the ongoing strike, LGUs have announced class suspensions with some shifting to online classes.
