Palace sends delegation to UN Status of Women session

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has sent a delegation to the 67th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York, an event that coincides with the global observance of Women’s Month.

Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil said the country’s delegation to the March 6 to 17 meeting is led by Antonio Lagdameo, ambassador and permanent representative of the Philippine Permanent Mission to the UN.

Members of the delegation include Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Margarita Gutierrez, Information and Communications Technology Undersecretary Anna Mae Lamentillo, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Cherbett Karen Maralit and Ambassador and deputy representative of the Permanent Mission to the UN Ariel Rodelas Peñaranda.

The theme of the UN’s observance of International Women’s Day is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.” The observance seeks to emphasize women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education.

“The observance will also explore the impact of the digital gender gap on widening economic and social inequalities, and it will also spotlight the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in digital spaces and addressing online and (information and communication technology)-facilitated gender-based violence,” Garafil added. – Pia Lee-Brago
