PHEA holds 73rd conference
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Home Economics Association (PHEA), a national organization of home economists and allied professionals in the Philippines, held their 73rd National Conference and Training last Oct. 21-23, 2022 at the Mansion Garden Hotel at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Olongapo City with the theme “Home Economists: Prime Movers for Economic Recovery and World Peace.”
Delivering the keynote address was Department of Education Bureau of Curriculum Development director Jocelyn D.R. Andaya while Dr. Werson De Asis and Ma. Gracia Fulgencio served as plenary speakers.
PHEA secretary Christine Banzuela also inducted officers of Home Economics Related Organizations (HEROs) during the event, which served as an occasion for PHEA members throughout the Philippines to present various best practices and research in the field.
With over a thousand members, PHEA enjoys a strong affiliation with the International Federation of Home Economics (IFHE) and the Asian Regional Association for Home Economics (ARAHE), two leading home economics associations in the international arena.
Long-time PHEA vice president Albert Rosarda was named PHEA president following an announcement by former association president Susana Guinea that she was stepping down due to health reasons.
The first male president of the association, Rosarda is the prefect of discipline of the junior high School department at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran. He is also a full-time faculty handling technology and livelihood education, and is recognized internationally as vice president for administration of the Asian Regional Association for Home Economics.
The conference culminated in a masquerade-themed fellowship night.
Founded in 1948 by the late Dr. Helena Zoila Tirona Benitez, PHEA has grown and developed into a national non-government organization bringing together individuals, institutions, and organizations in order to improve Home Economics education and its allied disciplines.
