MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang announced on Thursday President Marcos’ latest appointees to the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Governance Commission for Government-Owned or Controlled Corporations (GOCC).

James Arandila Layug was appointed DA assistant secretary on Sept. 15, replacing Federico Laciste Jr., Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said in a statement.

Marcos, who concurrently serves as DA secretary, earlier revamped the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), following the sugar importation fiasco.

The SRA is a government-owned and controlled corporation attached to the DA.

Layug previously served as deputy executive director of the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center.

A member of Philippine Military Academy Class 1995, Layug also served as director of the Department of National Defense’s Office of the Assistant Secretary for Installations and Self-Reliant Defense Posture during the Duterte administration.

Meanwhile, Marcos appointed Geraldine Marie Berberabe-Martinez and lawyer Gideon de Villa Mortel as members of the GOCC.

Martinez will be replacing Michael Cloribel, while Mortel will be replacing Marites Doral.

Martinez served as a member of the Government Service Insurance System Board of Trustees.

Mortel is a lecturer at the Development Academy of the Philippines, according to state-run Philippine News Agency.

The appointment papers of the new GOCC officials were signed by Marcos on Sept. 15 based on documents provided by the Office of the Press Secretary.
