MANILA, Philippines — Vice president-elect Sara Duterte has named former Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) acting chairman Reynold Munsayac as her official spokesman.

Munsayac replaced Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Frasco, who was named tourism secretary-designate of president-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“It is an honor to serve as spokesperson for vice president-elect Sara Z. Duterte, a great leader and a good person. I thank her for her trust and confidence in me,” Munsayac said yesterday, following his designation.

A law school classmate of Duterte at San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Munsayac graduated class valedictorian in 2005.

He was a senior associate at Fortun Narvasa & Salazar Law firm before becoming vice president for legal and administration of Pax Libera Mining Inc. in 2013.

Munsayac was also a professor and Bar review lecturer at various law schools and review centers.

In 2016, President Duterte appointed Munsayac as commissioner of the PCGG, the agency established to pursue the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcos family.

Munsayac served as the commission’s acting chairman until his resignation last year.

He assisted the vice president-elect in the establishment of the worldwide aggrupation Tapang at Malasakit in 2017, according to Duterte’s camp.

“Munsayac’s professional portfolio is highlighted by his unquestionable integrity and dedication to governance and public service, and the vice president-elect is confident that he will be able to bring this experience to his new duty,” the Duterte camp said.

Munsayac was a nominee of ACT as One party-list, which failed to secure a seat in the recent elections.

Party-list nominees are not covered by the one-year ban on appointment on losing candidates, the Commission on Elections said in 2019 after vlogger Mocha Uson was appointed to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.

Outside of his work as a lawyer, Munsayac also served as athletics director of San Sebastian College-Recoletos. He is also known in the music industry as the original vocalist of the band Slapshock.
