DDB taps faith-based groups in drug war

MANILA, Philippines — The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) urged religious organizations to help in the administration’s campaign against illegal drugs.

DDB chairman Catalino Cuy said faith-based organizations are necessary in the rehabilitation or recovery process in the government’s anti-drug advocacy.

The DDB yesterday convened Luzon-based health directors of the Southern Asia-Pacific Division of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Pasay City. 

Cuy said that other organizations could also implement similar programs that support the anti-illegal drug efforts. 

He noted that the Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs Strategy (PADS) takes an intersectoral and participatory approach that tries to form strong alliances, especially with the religious sectors. 

“They are good at mobilizing, and they add another mode of treatment that may help recovering drug users feel a sense of support and fellowship while undergoing rehabilitation. We encourage all faith-based organizations to do the same,” he said.
