MANILA, Philippines — China’s new ambassador to the country has announced plans of the Philippine and Chinese governments to hold a series of celebrations for the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2020.

Ambassador Huang Xilian said China-Philippines relations have been moving forward steadily, as the two countries are committed to peaceful and friendly coexistence.

He reiterated that under the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Duterte, China-Philippine relations have ushered in a new “golden age.”

Promoting the China-Philippines comprehensive strategic cooperative relations, he said, has become the common aspiration of the two peoples.

“The two countries are planning a series of celebrations ranging from political visits to economic cooperation, from cultural events to think tank exchanges. I look forward to working closely with my Filipino friends to further promote the China-Philippine relations and bring more tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries,” Huang said in his Christmas and New Year message.

He arrived in Manila on Dec. 3 to take up one of China’s most important diplomatic posts as he voiced optimism that “the best is yet to come” for Philippines-China relations.

Huang, a seasoned career diplomat, replaced Zhao Jianhua, who ended his tour of duty in October after five years as China’s top diplomat in the country.
