MANILA, Philippines — The government has reaffirmed its commitment to efforts geared toward advancing the rights and protection of children.

During the United Nations General Assembly marking the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the Philippines cited its efforts in promoting and protecting the rights of children such as the First 1,000 Days Law, the Special Protection of Children in Situations of Armed Conflict Act, the Philippine Action Plan to End Violence Against Children and free education in government institutions.

“The Philippines takes this opportunity to renew its solemn commitment to promote, protect and fulfill the rights of children and to advance the ideals that brought all countries together 30 years ago to establish this landmark convention for the children,” Philippine Chargé d’Affaires Kira Azucena said.

The meeting celebrated the milestones and successes of the CRC since its ratification in transforming the lives of millions of children around the world in the past 30 years.

The Philippines ratified the CRC in 1990, and has since passed several laws to implement its provisions.
