MANILA, Philippines — Warm, humid weather is forecast for the next two to three days as the southwest monsoon or habagat weakens, the state weather bureau said.

In an advisory yesterday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said, “We will experience a monsoon break in the next three days. Warm and humid weather will prevail in most parts of the country.”

However, PAGASA weather specialist Ariel Rojas, in his 5 p.m. weather update, still warned of possible sudden downpours in the afternoon or evening due to thunderstorms.

PAGASA said the Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region and the province of Zambales will experience light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms.

The onset of the rainy season was officially declared last Friday. This applies to areas under Type 1 Climate with distinct dry and wet seasons, which include Bataan, Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Mindoro, Palawan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales and Metro Manila. The moisture-laden southwest monsoon is the prevailing wind during the rainy season.

Rojas said no weather disturbance is expected to enter the country in the next five days.

But for this month, PAGASA forecast one or two tropical cyclones to enter the Philippine area of responsibility. A tropical cyclone could enhance monsoon rains, which could lead to flooding in low-lying areas.

In Metro Manila, the temperatures will range from 26 to 34 degrees Celsius in the next three days.
