DAVAO CITY, Philippines — President Duterte yesterday called on Muslim Filipinos commemorating the holy month of Ramadan to be reminded of the values of sacrifice, patience and humility in accordance with the Quran.

“Let this also be a solemn opportunity to ask God’s forgiveness for the sins we have committed and to be thankful for all the blessings we have received in the past year,” the President added.

In his message during the start of Ramadan yesterday, Duterte also urged the Muslim community to offer prayers for peace, solidarity and understanding among the Filipinos and humanity.

He said his administration strives to unite all Filipinos, regardless of religion, cultural tradition and political belief.

“Together let us create the change that we have been aspiring for – the social and moral transformation that is real and meaningful and the lasting progress that will uplift the lives of our kababayan,” Duterte said.

For its part, the Armed Forces of the Philippines expressed its solidarity with Filipino Muslims.

The Department of National Defense on Sunday also declared its support for the Muslims’ observance of Ramadan.

As this developed, Philippine National Police  chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde promised to continue protecting all Muslim areas in the country.
