MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte last night skipped the campaign rally of the administration PDP-Laban party in Marawi City due to bad weather.

Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said the President opted to rest since he could not campaign anyway.

Duterte, also PDP chairman, has been active in the campaign of senatorial bets of his administration.

He was in Bacolod City last Thursday evening where he reiterated the thrust of his administration and endorsed the bids of his party bets.

In a statement, PDP-Laban said the President’s helicopter was not given clearance to take off from the Davao City airport.

“Our party chairman President Duterte wasn’t able to attend the scheduled PDP-Laban campaign rally in Marawi City today due to bad weather,” Ronald Munsayac of the party said.

The Marawi rally was rescheduled to another date.

“I just spoke with the President’s appointments office and we will try to get another schedule for PRRD to visit our candidates and leaders in Lanao del Sur,” he said.

“We can still consider the Marawi City rally a successful one since most of the party’s senatoriables were able to personally meet and deliver their messages to our partymates, leaders and supporters,” Munsayac said.

He remained optimistic that the PDP campaign remains on track. “We are still on track and will be seeing everyone (past noon Saturday) in Malaybalay, Bukidnon,” he said.
