MANILA, Philippines — Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda and son Vice Gov. Dennis Pineda hosted the campaign launch of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) coalition for the 2019 midterm elections.

The coalition has 13 senatorial candidates on its lineup — Sonny Angara, Pia Cayetano, Ronald dela Rosa, JV Ejercito, Jinggoy Estrada, Bong Go, Zajid Mangudadatu, Jiggy Manicad, Imee Marcos, Koko Pimentel, Bong Revilla, Francis Tolentino and Cynthia Villar.

Pineda, called "Nanay Gov" by her constituents, appealed to Kapampangans to vote straight for the HNP lineup.

"Pagbibigyan nyo ba si Nanay Gov? Straight po tayo na Hugpong. Nakikinig si Mayor Sara, sana hindi mapahiya si Nanay Gov (Will you grant the request of Nanay Gov? Let us vote straight for Hugpong. Mayor Sara [Duterte] is listening, I hope Nanay Gov will not be humiliated)," she said.

Pineda's son Dennis, who is running for governor, also asked their constituents to support the 13-member administration coalition.

"Nakikiusap po kami sa inyo kasama na po ng inyong mga mayors at congressman na ipakita po natin ang suporta sa ating mahal na presidente. I-straight po natin ang lineup ng HNP (We are asking you, along with our mayors and congressmen, to show our support for our dear president. Let us vote straight for the HNP lineup)," the younger Pinesa said.

However, voting for all the 13 senatorial bets of the administration coalition in the upcoming elections would be problematic as there are only 12 available slots.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier reminded voters to vote for only 12 senatorial candidates in the forthcoming polls.

"You can vote for 0 up to 12 Senatorial candidates, and 0 up to 1 Party-list group. You should not vote for more," Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez earlier said on Twitter.

According to Jimenez, the overvoted position will be considered stray by the vote counting machine.

"All the votes for the overvoted position are stray. Nothing will be counted. All other positions that have not been overvoted will be counted accordingly," he added.

The poll body's certified list of candidates for senators indicate that a total of 63 candidates are gunning for a seat in the upper chamber. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
