SC holds necrological service in honor of ex-Justice Quisumbing
MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court on Thursday held a necrological service in honor of retired Associate Justice Leonardo Quisumbing who passed away last Sunday, January 20. He was 79 years old.
Quisumbing was appointed to the high court on Jan. 20, 1998. He served the SC for almost a decade until his retirement on Nov. 6, 2009.

Reports said that Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin led the necrological service, which was attended by SC justices—both incumbent and retired— and judiciary officials and employees.
Bersamin and former Chief Justice Reynato Puno delivered eulogies for Quisumbing.
Prior to his appointment as an associate justice of the high tribunal, he served as labor secretary and defense undersecretary during the administration of the late President Corazon Aquino.
He was also the senior deputy executive secretary to former President Fidel Ramos.
Quisumbing also held the rank of Commodore of the Philippine Coast Guard, 106th Auxiliary Squadron. — Kristine Joy Patag
