LAS VEGAS – Barely 24 hours after his remarkable victory here, boxing champion and Filipino senator Manny Pacquiao learned that his posh residence at Larchmont Park, Los Angeles had been burglarized.
Pacquiao was on his way back to LA with his entourage Sunday when he was informed of the break-in at his multimillion-dollar residence.
The WBA welterweight champion could not be reached for comment. He joined his family in another house in Los Angeles, which they have reportedly been renting for $60,000 a month since they arrived here last Dec. 22.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were at the Pacquiao residence as of press time, trying to look for clues or anything that might provide them with a lead.
Reports said police officers on routine patrol noticed the front door to the house open Sunday afternoon (Monday morning in Manila) and discovered the break-in.
Steve Angeles, an LA-based correspondent for ABS-CBN, was first to break the news when he noticed police presence within the Pacquiao property.
The brother of the boxing superstar, Bobby Pacquiao, told reporters that the house had been “ransacked” although he had not yet seen it.
No one was in the house when the break-in occurred because everybody was with the 40-year-old boxer when he fought and defeated Adrien Broner at the MGM Grand here last Saturday.
A source said there are two safety vaults in the house, and those may have been the objective of the intruders. The contents of the safety vault are not known.
A Pacquiao associate, who sought anonymity, told The STAR that special units from the LAPD, including those from the commercial crimes unit, were scouring the residence for any clues, including fingerprints.
The source said there was “forcible entry through the backdoor.” He said because too many are given access to the house while Pacquiao is around, it’s no surprise that information is leaked regarding its security.
“People come and go. People take pictures and videos of the house. Any information can easily be accessed through these visitors,” said the source, adding that the LAPD is not revealing any information regarding the investigation.
