MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 has been raised in eight areas as Tropical Depression "Amang" continues to approach Southern Leyte, PAGASA said Monday morning.
In its Severe Weather Bulletin issued early Monday morning, PAGASA said "Amang" was 70 kilometers north of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte and 70 km east northeast of Maasin City, Southern Leyte.
The tropical depression is moving west northwest at 10 kph and has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph.
PAGASA said the tropical depression is forecast to be 70 km north northeast of Mactan, Cebu by Tuesday morning.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 has been raised over the following areas:
- Eastern Samar
- Samar
- Biliran
- Leyte
- Southern Leyte
- Eastern Bohol and Northern Cebu
- Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands
Storm warning signals have meanwhile been lifted in Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Camiguin.
PAGASA said "moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and Bicol Region. Meanwhile, tomorrow (22 January), moderate to heavy rains may be experienced over Eastern Visayas, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate."
The weather bureau warned residents of those araeas, "especially those living in areas at high risk of flooding and landslides," to make the necessary preparations, coordinate with their local disaster risk reduction management offices and monitor Severe Weather Bulletins and Heavy Rainfall Warnings.
