NORTH COTABATO, Philippines — Traffic on the national highway in Aleosan town was stalled for hours on Wednesday by broken beer bottles that had fallen off a trailer truck.

Among those stranded by the broken beer bottles and scattered bottle cases was North Cotabato Vice Gov. Shirlyn Macasarte-Villanueva.

Residents of Barangay Bagolibas, Aleosan helped authorities clear the highway of broken bottles and plastic cases.

“Virtually bumaha ng beer sa portion ng highway na nagkalat ang mga bote at mga cases na nahulog from the truck,” Macasarte-Villanueva said.

(The portion of the highway was virtually flooded with beer and bottles and cases that fell from the truck)

The beer fell off the truck when the binding securing them to the truck loosened. The truck's driver and two assistants did not notice that their cargo was no longer secure.

Superintendent Aldrin Gonzalez, spokesman of the Regional Police Office-12, said authorities are thankful that barangay residents helped sweep the broken bottles to the sides of the highway.
