ABS-CBN documentary bags first Gold Dolphin for Philippines

MANILA, Philippines — ABS-CBN's documentary on the Marawi siege won the first Gold Dolphin for the Philippines at the Cannes Corporate Media and TV Awards.

The television network's "Di Ka Pasisiil" (Never Shall Be Conquered) bagged the best documentary award under the Current Affairs, Human Concerns and Social Issues category.

ABS-CBN correspondents Chiara Zambrano and Jeff Canoy received the award in Palm Beach, Cannes, France.

"We never even asked ourselves IF we would make the documentary 'Di Ka Pasisiil (Never Shall Be Conquered). It was always just a matter of WHEN. The story of this siege and all the pain that came with it... it was something the world needed to know," Zambrano said on her Instagram post.

We never even asked ourselves IF we would make the documentary 'Di Ka Pasisiil (Never Shall Be Conquered). It was always just a matter of WHEN. The story of this siege and all the pain that came with it... it was something the world needed to know. Jeff, we've been through all kinds of nasty just to tell the stories our hearts call out for. We and our colleagues give so much of ourselves for love of country and love of journalism. I'm just glad for moments like these, when fate gives us a pat on the back and allows us a nice day out, no storms no bullets no terrorists no earthquakes. So far. We just won Gold at the Cannes Corporate Media and TV Awards for 'Di Ka Pasisiil. Whew. Whew whew. Had to wait for my hands to stop shaking before I could write this. I legit wanted to hug everyone in my path as I walked back from the stage. This is recognition for the hard work of all journalists - it is our honor to be in your ranks. Let's keep fighting the good fight, striving for excellence in bravery, never forgetting the Filipino people for whom we do this. This is for all the people in Marawi whose lives were taken in horrible ways. For their loved ones, who will never be the same. For the soldiers who agreed to enter the nightmare, and stay in the nightmare until the skies were dark no more. This is for the Meranao people who did not ask for any of this, but are now fighting through it. We are still with you, piece by piece we shall rebuild homes and lives and broken hearts. This is for every single person who helped us create this documentary, many of whom choose not to be named. Those brave men and women who shared the same desire to let the nation and the world know what was happening and how it started, so we may all figure out how to put terrorism to an end. This is for the rest of the ABS-CBN DocuCentral team who worked just as hard but were unable to join us tonight - Francis Toral, Carmina Reyes, Hera N. Both Zambrano and Canoy dedicated their win for Marawi City, which has been devastated after being taken over by ISIS-inspired local terrorists in May last year.
