MANILA, Philippines — The regular holiday in observance of the Muslim feast of Eid-al Adha or Feast of Sacrifice will be on Aug. 21, on the same special holiday commemorating the assassination of former senator Benigno Aquino Jr.

Through Proclamation No. 556, President Duterte declared Aug. 21 a regular holiday upon the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos. Eid’l Adha is observed from the eve of Aug. 21 through the entire Aug. 22. But Aug. 22 is not a holiday.

Aug. 21 is also Ninoy Aquino Day.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed the proclamation. Eid-al Adha commemorates Abraham’s submission to God’s command that he sacrifice his son Isaac.
