MANILA, Philippines — A journalist was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding assailants in Panabo City, Davao del Norte yesterday.
Killed was Dennis Denora, 67, publisher of weekly local newspaper Trends and Time.
Davao del Norte police director Senior Supt. Alan Manibog said they would conduct an investigation to determine the motive for the killing.
Denora is not a hard-hitting journalist, according to Manibog.
Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz, Davao region police spokesperson, said Denora was in his white Hyundai Elantra car with his driver, Mayonito Revira, on their way to Tagum City when the suspects opened fire along Barangay New Pandan at around 1:10 p.m.
Quoting a police report, Driz said the assailants shot Denora multiple times in the head, killing him on the spot.
Although wounded, Revira was able to run to a friend’s house, leaving Denora in the car.
The driver suffered two gunshots to the body and was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
Probers said they recovered fired bullets and a bullet casing from a .45-caliber handgun at the the scene.
