MANILA, Philippines — For the love of chicharon (crispy pork rind), waitress Rutchel Taer got a sound beating from a Chinese chef at an eatery in Parañaque City yesterday.
Initial police investigation showed that Wang Yongbin, 27, was cooking chicharon at the Reyes Eatery at around 7:40 p.m. when Taer went inside the kitchen and saw a plate of the freshly cooked pork rind on the table.
She took one and ate it, infuriating Wang who punched her and pinned her on the floor.
“Tumikim lang daw si Taer sa chicharon na niluluto ni Yongbin tapos nabigla siguro yong Chinese kaya napagbuhatan nya ito (Taer simply wanted to taste the chicharon Yongbin was cooking. It took the Chinese by surprise, that’s why he hit her),” said Senior Supt. Leon Victor Rosete, the city’s police chief.
It took several workers to intervene and restrain Wang, who was arrested and detained at the city police office. They also assisted Taer in seeking a medical checkup.
Rosete said a complaint for physical injury is being readied against Wang, although he believes that the employer of the chef and the waitress would be able to resolve the issue at their level.
He added that they are still waiting for the employer’s statement.
