MANILA, Philippines — Retired policeman Wally Sombrero, alleged middleman of Chinese casino mogul Jack Lam in the Bureau of Immigration bribery scandal, has surrendered to authorities.

Sombrero presented himself to incoming Philippine National Police chief Oscar Albayalde at Camp Crame Wednesday morning.

He is the alleged emissary of Lam who gave two Immigration deputy commissioners P50 million in exchange for the release of Chinese nations who were arrested by BI in November 2016 for illegally working in Lam’s hotel and casino.

“I came here for [the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group] and Gen. Albayalde for them to assist me and they will present me to Sandiganbayan,” Sombrero said.

He earlier denied that he did not act as an emissary for Lam, whom he claimed he does not know personally.

The retired police senior superintendent had also cleared former justice chief Vitaliano Aguirre II in the immigration scandal.
