MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation on Thursday rejected the appeal of the MIASCOR Aviation Services to reconsider the termination of its contract as the ground handler in several airports in the country.

“The DOTr denies the appeal of MIASCOR and stands firm in its decision not to renew the company’s contract with the Manila International Airports Authority beyond April 2018,” it said in a statement.

The transport department added: “The president has also said that he will entertain any appeal from MIASCOR Aviation Services.”

MIASCOR appealed last January, citing the thousands of “employees and their families who will be affected” by the contract termination.

The termination stemmed from a luggage pilferage incident at the Clark International Airport. Items amounting to almost P83,000 were looted from the baggage of overseas Filipino worker Jovenil dela Cruz.

Six employees of MIASCO were charged with theft.

Duterte personally apologized to the victim and said he would fire airport officials if luggage theft happens again.
